What is a science ?

The word science is derived from a latin word (sanctia) which means knowledge.Science follows a systematic method to understand natural phenomena. These methods are simply based on observation and experimention hence the knowledge which is based upon the observations and experimentations is taken as science other knowledge which don't fall in this category cannot be taken as science as a science deals with nature it is also called natural science. The main and principal focus of science is to study nature and that is why it was also called natural philosophy.

When we talk about the division of science we come to know that science has been divided into two branches there are two basic branches of sciences one of them is the biological sciences that deals with the study of living things and the second one is physical sciences that deals with the study of non-living things.

The biological sciences when we study the biological sciences we come to know that biological sciences are also divided into two branches the first one is botany which deals with the study of plants and the second one is zoology which deals with the study of animals.

Similarly, when we talk about physical sciences we come to know that physical sciences are also called fundamental sciences because these provide foundations for other areas of science basically fundamental sciences give foundations theories and laws for other sciences and that is why these are known as fundamental sciences.
